I know I said you were done, but there's one more little thing: your travel insurance . . .

Travel Insurance

Because of requirements from our local vendors in Peru, travel insurance to cover any medical expenses incurred during this trip is required. It is possible that your current health insurance covers medical incidents and the cost of evacuation that occurs outside of the U.S., but travel insurance is easy, not too expensive, and also includes trip cancellation coverage. Most companies require that you get the insurance soon after signing up—usually within two weeks of making your first deposit—so the sooner the better.

We highly recommend that you choose an insurance plan that covers medical coverage, trip evacuation, and trip cancellation in case illness or injury prevents you from going on the trip. Your initial deposit for this trip is not refundable and further refunds are only available on a graduated basis according to our cancellation policy. After January 15, 2021, the only refunds offered for this trip will be through travel insurance. Trip cancellation insurance is the only way to protect your entire investment.

When purchasing trip cancellation insurance, be sure to read the fine print, as these companies don't cover every contingency. Most of the policies cover illness or accidents (with a doctor's letter) and family emergencies, like when a family member dies or becomes ill (for instance, if you're the caregiver of an elderly parent). Most travel insurance policies don't cover cancellations due to pre-existing conditions, though their definition of "pre-existing" varies. We suggest that you carefully read through what is and isn't covered before you buy. and are two online sites that will allow you to quickly research travel insurance quotes from multiple companies. They also provide reviews and comparisons of a variety of travel insurance companies and policies.
