Vietnam Trip Terms & Conditions


Payments, Cancellations and Refunds

Trip Cost and Fees: $6499 includes airfare from LA or San Francisco or New York. Single supplement (on a first come, first served basis): $771.

Payments: A non-refundable deposit of $1000.00 per person is required at the time of booking. A second non-refundable payment of $1000.00 is due on July 1st, 2015. The final payment will be due 90 days before departure, on or before September 28, 2015. If the balance is not paid in full by the due date, we will regard the booking as canceled. Late bookings, after September 28th, must be paid in full at the time they are made. For those adding on the trip to Cambodia, the payment for this add-on will be due with the final payment on or before September 28, 2015.

Price Includes: The trip price is based on two persons sharing a twin-bedded room with private bath. Trip cost also includes full breakfast, excursions listed in the itinerary, classes, services of Vietnamese, Laotian and USA guide, several orientation and language sessions. The trip price includes land arrangements and air, but a rise in fuel taxes may influence the final price. Ground only, deduct $1300.00. Those doing their own air will be responsible for transfers from airport to hotel and return. If you are flying from a location other than LA, New York or San Francisco, your airfare costs will be greater, and you will pay the difference between our allotment for airfare and your total cost. Not Included: Visa fee (approximately $100 for Vietnam and $35 for Laos) laundry, tips ($50-$80), trip cancellation insurance, meals not specifically included in itinerary: (meals range from $4-$8 each).

Itinerary: All activities on this tour are subject to change. There may be unique opportunities we can take advantage of: local festivities, temple festivals or purification ceremonies. Participating in one of these opportunities will preclude doing something that’s on the itinerary or change the sequence of activities. Weather may also cause changes to our itinerary. If an activity must be canceled, another similar activity will be substituted. There will be no refunds for any activities participants do not participate in or attend, and anyone who leaves the tour itinerary at any time FOR ANY REASON is on their own.

Cancellations and Refund Policy: The initial $1000 non-refundable deposit will be forfeited in all cases. All airfare tickets, once purchased by Danu Tours on your behalf are non-refundable. For the land portion, a cancellation fee of $2000.00 (this includes your $1000 deposit) will be kept after on or after July 1st, when the second payment is due. The final payment for the trip must be made by September 28th, three months before the date of departure. Any cancellations made on or after this date will result in the loss of all monies received. Exceptions to this cancellation policy cannot be made for any reason, including personal emergencies. Travel insurance is strongly recommended to protect your investment. There will be no refunds for leaving the retreat early or arriving late. Further, there are no refunds for any part of the program that you do not attend or participate in. Although we do our best to avoid this, it may occasionally be necessary for The Writer’s Journey or Danu Tours to cancel a retreat due to insufficient registration or any other cause. If a trip is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified at least 60 days in advance, and your entire payment will be refunded to you within 14 days after the cancellation. Refund of payments made constitutes full settlement, and releases Laura Davis and The Writer’s Journey and Danu Tours from any further liability. In the rare event that the Writer’s Journey and Danu Tours must cancel a trip, Laura Davis, The Writer’s Journey and Danu Tours are not responsible for any additional expenses incurred, such as non-refundable airline tickets or passport fees.

Photo Release

We will photograph group activities for use in brochure/publicity. Please notify us if we are not free to use photographs of you.


We create a group roster with everyone’s contact info to be distributed to trip members. If you do not want your contact info on this roster (or only want some items included), let Laura Davis know.


The Writer’s Journey, Laura Davis, Karyn Bristol, Danu Tours, Judy Slattum and Made Surya, and other cooperating agencies (referred to as The Writer’s Journey) act only in the capacity of agent for the participation in all matters relating to transportation and/ or all other related travel services and assume no responsibility whatsoever for injury, loss or damage, to person or property in connection with any service, including but not limited to that resulting directly from: acts of God, detention, annoyance, delays and expenses arising from quarantine, medical emergencies and evacuation, strikes, thefts, pilferage, force majeure, failure of any means of conveyance to arrive or depart as scheduled, civil disturbances, government restrictions or regulation, discrepancies or change in transit over which it has no control. On advancement of deposit the depositor agrees to be bound by the above recited terms and conditions. Prices subject to change without notice, due to currency fluctuations and/ or other causes.

CANCELLATION FEES AND PENALTIES are defined in the pre-tour information. No partial refund or credits will be given for unused services. The organizer reserves the right to accept, retain, or cancel any prospective or actual member of the tour at any time, at any place, and for any reason, at our discretion. If any participant is removed from the tour, a proportionate refund will be made. Organizer will not reimburse participants for any substitute arrangements they make on their own. Deviations from the pre-paid itinerary are at the participants’ expense.


PAYMENTS: Trip cost is based on a minimum number of ten participants. If the minimum number is not met, The Writer’s Journey and Danu Tours reserves the right to cancel the trip or to apply a surcharge to costs. In the case of a trip cancellation, you will receive a full refund. The Writer’s Journey is not responsible for any additional expenses incurred, such as nonrefundable airline tickets or passport fees.

I am aware that during the trip that I am participating in under the arrangements of The Writer’s Journey and Danu Tours and their agents or associates, certain risks and dangers may occur, including, but not limited to the hazards of hiking, snorkeling, accident or illness, forces of nature and travel by air, automobile, bus, train or other conveyance. I consent to and agree not to hold The Writer’s Journey and Danu Tours responsible should any of their suppliers fail to provide the travel services I have purchased. In consideration of, and as part payment for, the right to participate in such trip or other activities and the services and food arranged for me by The Writer’s Journey and Danu Tours their agents or associates, I have and do hereby assume all of the above risks and will hold them harmless from any and all liability, action, causes of action, debts, claims, and demands of every kind and nature whatsoever, which I now have or which may arise in connection with my trip or participation in any kind of activities arranged for me by The Writer’s Journey and Danu Tours and their agents or associates. The terms hereof shall serve as a release and assumption of risk from my heirs, executors, and administrators and for all members of my family, including minors accompanying me. I have read and agreed to these conditions, especially noting the policy on cancellation and refunds on this sheet. I am aware that should I choose not to purchase insurance coverage as put forth under “Insurance:” above, I will be liable for all costs in the case of cancellation, trip delays, damage or loss of baggage and medical emergencies whatsoever. Any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to this Agreement, or the making, performance or interpretation thereof, shall be settled by binding arbitration in Santa Cruz, California, in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association then existing, and judgment on the arbitration award may be entered in any court having jurisdiction over the subject matter of the controversy.
