Wednesday, September 16th
Today was our last full creativity and rest day. From here on out, we’ll be walking every day until we reach Santiago de Compostela. So I thought today I’d take the opportunity to give you an inside peek at our group at work and play. We’ve reached the point where people are writing and drawing and exploring watercolors on their own: while waiting for meals, in an impromptu happy hour sketch, or through journaling and writing on the go. I love to see that.
Here are some of our participants immersed in creative pursuits. It’s so wonderful to see people pick up a paintbrush or a pen and journal instead of their phone!

While walking to lunch. While walking, I’ve overheard several conversations that began: “Now, how would you paint those clouds?”
I love eavesdropping on these conversations.
If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know that everyone received a writing/art journal and art supplies when they first arrived in Spain. Our Camino journals have been slowly filling with words, art lessons, responses to prompts, writing quotations, and images.
Here’s what some of our journal pages look like. Bear in mind that some people on this trip have been writing for a long time; others are new to writing. Some have been doing art for a long time; others are playing with watercolor and sketching for the very first time:
Tomorrow will be our longest hiking day of all. Some people are getting up early to start walking in the dark. I may or may not join them, depending on how I feel in the morning. I’ve still got a bit of a cough but better energy today than yesterday. I loved having a day to rest!
